Homes

by Molly Spencer

I come from colors of a childhood and a home I don’t remember
I come from the baby blue window boxes
They were painted over before I was born
I always knew the house with the baby blue window boxes
But it was never my house to live in

I come from white flowers in the backdrop of every Easter photo I was ever in
My earliest memories are of spring
And white flowers I don’t know the name of
I come from pink ink stains on my white plaster walls
Stains that I left as a child
Stains I left hastily in attempt to make my life more colorful
Pink ink stains that I left behind when I moved to my new home
Stains I left behind when I moved into my real home
